A Code Red lockdown has been initiated at Middle Creek High School in response to a report that a student was in possession of a firearm on campus.

Upon receiving the report, the school promptly placed itself on lockdown and contacted the police for assistance.

The Cary Police Department responded and located the student who was believed to have the firearm, but no weapon was ultimately found.

As of 10:30 a.m., school officials are continuing to question the student with the possible firearm in the presence of Cary Police Department.

As a precautionary measure, the police conducted a thorough search of the campus, but no injuries related to the incident have been reported thus far.

The school has no intention to release students early, but parents can wait for their children at a designated location on the soccer fields along Optimist Farm Road.

As a precautionary measure, West Lake Elementary School, West Lake Middle School, and Middle Creek Elementary Schools were all placed under a Code Yellow lockdown along with the high school.
