According to a statement from the Beckley Police Department, Lashawn Deondre Shelton, 26, passed away on April 25, 2023 due to injuries sustained in a shooting on Sheridan Avenue in Beckley that occurred on April 22nd.

Shelton was transported to a hospital in Charleston after the shooting.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and individuals with information are urged to contact the Beckley Police Department Detective Bureau at 304-256-1720.

New information regarding the shooting in Beckley Saturday night has been released by Deputy Chief Dave Allard of the Beckley Police Department.

In a press release, it was stated that on April 22, 2023, officers responded to a report of shots being fired on Sheridan Avenue, near 7th Street.

Upon arrival, two crashed cars were discovered, and three black male gunshot victims were found on the ground outside the vehicles.

When authorities arrived at the scene on Sheridan Avenue in Beckley, they found two crashed cars and three gunshot victims outside of one of the vehicles.

Witnesses reported that three black males were seen running from the scene prior to the police’s arrival, leaving the other car empty.

According to Deputy Chief Dave Allard of the Beckley Police Department, multiple guns and around 100 bullet casings were found around the scene, indicating that both cars were involved in the gunfire.

Upon responding to a report of shots fired on Sheridan Avenue, near 7th Street, Beckley P.D. officers found two crashed cars and three gunshot victims lying on the ground outside the car.

According to Deputy Chief Allard, witnesses reported three black males fleeing the scene before the police arrived.

Police found multiple guns and around 100 fired bullet casings near the cars and the street. One of the victims, a 26-year-old man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two victims, aged 23 and 26, were taken to a hospital in Charleston and remain in critical condition.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting is related to the death of Malique Medley, who was killed in a shooting two blocks away on April 20.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Beckley Police Department or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia, and a cash reward may be paid for information leading to an arrest.
