Four dead and multiple injured after Alabama shooting at 16-year-old’s birthday party



According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a shooting on Saturday night in Dadeville resulted in the deaths of four people and multiple injuries.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. and details about the cause of the shooting have not been confirmed. It is also unclear whether a suspect has been apprehended at this time.

According to Pastor Ben Hayes, who is the chaplain for both the Dadeville Police Department and the local high school football team, the majority of the shooting victims were teenagers, as the incident happened during a sweet 16 birthday party. He further noted that such violent crimes are uncommon in the small town and that the incident has left the community shaken.

One of the victims who died in the shooting was a star athlete and a great person. He stated that he knew many of the students and that the shooting has deeply affected the small town, where serious crimes are rare.

Phil Dowdell, a high school senior who was set to graduate in just a few weeks and had secured a football scholarship to Jacksonville State.

Dowdell had been celebrating his sister Alexis’ sweet 16 birthday party on Saturday night when the tragic incident occurred, resulting in his untimely death.

Annette Allen, Dowdell’s grandmother, described him as an incredibly humble and kind-hearted individual who never caused any trouble and always had a beaming smile on his face. She referred to his smile as a “million-dollar smile.”

The shooting occurred at a dance studio and news stations shared images of crime scene tape surrounding the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio and adjacent buildings, along with a large police presence.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey expressed her condolences in a statement on social media, stating that violent crime has no place in the state and that they are keeping a close eye on updates from law enforcement.

Dadeville, a town with around 3,200 residents, is situated in eastern Alabama and is approximately 57 miles (92 kilometers) northeast of Montgomery.
