1 Killed, 3 injured in Shooting outside Stewart Funeral Home in northeast Washington

No additional details regarding the incident have been released by the police at this time.

According to the police, a shooting occurred on Tuesday at a funeral home in Northeast D.C., resulting in the death of one man and injuries to three others.

The incident happened shortly after a funeral service for a gun violence victim had ended at the Stewart Funeral Home on Benning Road NE. Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee provided details of the event during a news conference, stating that several individuals standing outside the funeral home were shot by an unknown assailant.

According to Contee, an officer in the vicinity heard the sound of gunfire and discovered that four adults had been shot.

Among them, one man lost his life, while the other three individuals sustained injuries that were not critical, as confirmed by the police chief.

It appears that the attacker specifically targeted several individuals who were present in the area after the funeral, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear, according to Contee.

Contee stated that the authorities have not yet determined the perpetrator’s identity, and they are currently engaged in interviewing witnesses as part of their investigation.

The police chief condemned the shooting as an audacious act, particularly given that it took place during a funeral service for a victim of a homicide that had occurred in March. Contee expressed his disappointment, stating that it is disheartening that someone could be so callous as to target individuals attending a funeral. He further revealed that the responding officer was stationed nearby at the family’s request, who were in mourning during the funeral.

Numerous law enforcement personnel from the D.C. police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were observed in the vicinity.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
