Rider University on lockdown after reports of active shooter

A number of different law enforcement organizations are reacting to reports of active shooter at Rider University.

At this time, Rider University has reported that there is no verified active shooter present on campus. However, authorities are advising students to remain in their sheltered location as they continue their investigation.

Lawrence Township NJ Police Department issued the following statement:

Lawrence Township Police Department is currently investigating a threatening telephone call that was received by Rider University Public Safety. In an abundance of caution, proper safety precautions are in place as the investigation continues.

There is no active shooter situation on campus at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this threat is asked to contact the Lawrence Township Police Department at 609-896-1111.

According to University alert:

Attention Rider campus community: Please take immediate action to shelter in place until further notice due to a threat that has been made to campus. We urge everyone to stay inside or seek shelter indoors, and to stay away from doors and windows. Public Safety and Lawrence PD are currently investigating the threat, which is potentially related to an active shooter situation. This is not a drill, and we ask that you remain in place until further notice. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

As at the time of this report, there has been neither confirmation nor identification of any victims.

No suspects have been identified, and there has been no information immediately released regarding any arrests.

Police ask public to please stay out of the area.
