Preston Deener, McDonald’s employee charged in deadly overnight shooting at the McDonald’s in Orange Mound

Deener allegedly pulled a handgun from his pocket, shooting the victim in the chest.

On Wednesday, the McDonald’s worker involved in the fatal shooting at the Orange Mound location on Monday was present in court.

Preston Deener, aged 36, is facing charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

During the hearing, the amount of bond for the shooting charges was lowered from $500,000 to zero.

However, despite the reduction, Deener was still being held in custody due to a previous domestic assault charge, which also saw a reduction in bond from $10,000 to $2,500, as of Wednesday at around 12:30 p.m.

Police officers from the MPD were dispatched to the scene of a shooting at the McDonald’s located on S Trezevant in the 1400 block at just before 2 a.m. on Monday, March 13.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a woman who had been shot lying on the ground. Unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the affidavit, video evidence indicated that the victim had initially brandished a firearm at Deener, and then knocked on the drive-thru window with the weapon during a dispute with him about an incorrect order.

The affidavit also noted that the verbal altercation continued even after the victim had lowered her gun. Shortly after she had lowered her weapon, Deener reportedly produced a handgun from his pocket and shot the victim in the chest.
