The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office reported that a police officer was injured and a suspect was killed during a shooting on Friday afternoon in Deptford.

The incident occurred at around 12:45 p.m. on Doman Avenue, which is a cul-de-sac located within a residential area.

The injured officer was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he received emergency surgery and is now listed as being in stable condition, according to the New Jersey Police Benevolent Association.

A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, witnessed the aftermath and stated, “I saw the officer lying on the ground, and the suspect was on the other side.

Shortly after, around 30 officers rushed to the scene and loaded the officer into a truck to take him to the hospital.”

According to Danny Howell, a nearby resident, he saw the suspect running down the street, holding his waist, in the darkness. “You could tell something was happening because of the way he was running,” he added. It’s unclear what caused the suspect’s injuries.

Investigators have not disclosed any information about the events leading up to the shooting or whether any arrests have been made.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has assured the public that there is no ongoing danger to the community.
