The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has reported that they have taken a suspect into custody in connection to the shooting death of 35-year-old Donnie Lee Sanders outside Lucas Oil Stadium.

According to IMPD, officers arrested a person who is believed to have played a role in the incident, and later identified him as 25-year-old Elijah Hayes.

Jail records show that Hayes was booked on a preliminary charge of murder, although his booking photo is currently unavailable.

Sanders was discovered on the sidewalk at the intersection of South and Missouri streets outside the stadium, and police were initially dispatched to the 500 block of S. Capitol Avenue, which is the location of Lucas Oil Stadium, at around 9:45 p.m. on Monday.

The authorities had earlier stated that they had observed the suspect on surveillance video entering the Indiana Convention Center.

Following the shooting, the venue was placed on lockdown, which was later lifted.

The incident took place shortly after a basketball game between the Indiana Pacers and the Philadelphia 76ers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which is located just a few blocks away from the crime scene.
