A call was received by the Hastings 911 Center this morning, March 2, 2023, from an individual who claimed to be a teacher in a particular room at Hastings High School.

The 911 center was immediately suspicious as the caller provided false information.

The caller stated that there was an active shooter on the premises. The School resource officer was present inside the school and all other HPD officers were dispatched to the location.

The school was promptly placed on lockdown. In response to the nature of the call, HPD personnel are conducting a room-to-room search to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

HPS Administration and HPD Administration are working in conjunction to provide accurate information to students, parents, and the public.

HPD will conduct an investigation into the call. Police officers will be present at the school to maintain the safety of all students and staff and to answer any questions.

Thanks to prior planning between HPD and HPS, procedures were in place that helped to maintain a calm atmosphere during the event. Currently, there is no genuine threat at Hastings High School.
