Memphis police officer Geoffrey Redd dies after Poplar-White Station Library shooting

Officer Redd also served his country as a United States Marine.



On February 2, 2023, at approximately 12:32 pm, officers responded to a call at the Poplar-White Station Library.

During this incident, Officer Redd was struck by gunfire and rushed to Regional One Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Despite the best efforts and excellent medical care by those at Regional One, Officer Redd succumbed to his injuries on February 18, 2023, at the hospital.

Officer Redd became an officer of the Memphis Police Department in February 2008.

He served the citizens of Memphis working at Old Allen, Union, Raines, Mt Moriah, Ridgeway, and Appling Farms Stations.

He also served his country as a United States Marine.

Officer Redd was a husband, a father, and the Director of Security at his church.

“I was deeply saddened to hear that Memphis Police Officer Geoffrey Redd has succumbed to his injuries and passed away today. On behalf of all the men and women of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, I offer my prayers and deepest condolences to his family, friends and the Memphis Police Department. He died protecting the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County and we are truly heartbroken.”
